Craziness of Life

So its been a while since I posted anything....life has been hectic to say the least. The past month has been a blur! But it all slowed down last week when the storms came through our state. We knew it was going to be bad but we had no idea the extent of it all. Tuscaloosa was the worst hit in terms of deaths and damage to a major city. By God's grace, the tornado that went through there narrowly missed Will and his roommates. They were able to see it heading their way from the back door but it took a turn at the last minute and headed away. He was pretty shaken up about it. More devastating was the loss of one of his friends, Marcus Smith. The tornado went straight through his apartment and he was missing for about 4 days before they found him under some rubble next to his apartment. He was only 21. We attended a memorial for him last night in Tuscaloosa since he is originally from Virginia and they will be burying him there. I have to say, it was the most encouraging and uplifting memorial service I've ever been to! To hear how Marcus lived for God every day and was truly a servant of Christ was so encouraging! It made me really stop and look at my life and think about whether I would be ready to meet God if I was to go right now. It really puts things into perspective.

We were lucky in our neck of the woods also. The tornado came right up 65 and hit Fultondale, which is one exit down from our house. We had no idea it was so close! Thankfully, no one was killed in Fultondale. The damage was extensive though. We went to help cut trees and clean yards on Saturday and it was just indescribable! I've never seen an area that had a tornado come through it except on TV, and television doesn't even come close to showing the damage! It literally looked like a bomb went off! It will take a while before everything is cleaned up and people are able to start rebuilding. Hopefully, the weather will be nice enough this weekend and we will get back out there and see what we can do.

My work was also out for three days last week. An F2 tornado came through Cahaba Heights about a block from my office so we had no power Wednesday thru Friday. You would think that three days off would be a great time to relax and just take a load off, but when you have no power at YOUR house for 2 of those 3 days, its not really that great. Plus, since our company is international, even though our work was put on hold, the rest of the world was business as usual. I had 80 emails when I got back to work Monday. It was craziness! Its still craziness! We're having to run triage at work to assess which projects are more important, which is, as you would guess, not making our customers happy. It was almost like they all lived under rocks last week. None of them could understand why we hadn't done anything last week! Have a heart people!

Now that life is trying to get to some semblance of normalcy, our weekends are starting to fill up : ) We're planning on going camping this weekend with some friends in Gardendale. Apparently, its a very secluded area of Gardendale but at least we'll be close to some civilization. We're also planning to go to a baseball game with Rory's family in about a month. I'm pretty excited about that too! We usually go to at least one game a year so I'm looking forward to the mini vacation : )

Hope everyone is doing well!

God Bless!
