Beach 2016
Our yearly family beach trip is in the books for 2016 - and it was a good one!
We got a late start this year in booking it since the year before we booked in January. We also moved the trip back a couple of weeks to accommodate one of our groups' brother's wedding on the usual week. I won't say that I was disappointed because it ended up coinciding perfectly with Emma's daycare family's vacation! There were a few set backs along the way with dates leaving and dates coming back but in all, it was well worth being able to spend a week with our good friends at the beach...and for free I might add! I would have gladly paid for the location though.
This year, we stayed in our friend Julianne's grandparent's beach house down in Fort Morgan. I'd never been down that way but it was really nice! The house was perfect for all of us and the beach was very nice with not many people around like most big resorts have. We were able to do whatever we wanted whenever we wanted and it was seriously one of the most relaxing and laziest vacations I've had in a while! I loved it!
Since we were also about 30 minutes from the other 40 something members of our "beach group", we did our own thing in the way of eating out and playing on the beach. It didn't take us long to realize just how much work went into loading up a five year old, 2 two year olds and a five month old just to drive to eat. Therefore, we spent the majority of our time right there in Fort Morgan. We did venture out to go eat at The Original Oyster House (where I also got a SUPER cute beach bag), Mikee's Seafood, and to play putt putt on our last night. One of the best restaurants, though, was the Sassy Bass, just a few miles down the road from the house. It was seriously delicious and they even served the kids' dinners on take-home frisbees!
This year was a big one for Emma too. Last year, we discovered she neither liked the sand, nor the water. This year, I was determined for her to at least touch the sand without having a come apart. For the most part, it worked out. We spent Sunday evening down there with Roger and Tonya and Emma finally got the nerve up to get out of my arms and stand on the sand, with shoes on though. She ventured off with Peyton and Emory and they were even able to get her to touch the sand! Gasp! Her Uncle Roger was eventually able to get her to stand on the first step of the swimming pool too, even if it was for just a second. We made big strides that night! Monday morning, we took a trip down to the beach again and this time, I took Emma's shoes off before we got to the pier. She was not happy about it but once she realized that the sand was not going to hurt her, she calmed down and started walking around with Eli and Brock. The boys, of course, were rolling around freely in the sand and would get right up to the tide line. Emma wanted nothing to do with the water (even when I would hold her and stand in it). Every morning, we would start over with her freaking out when I took her shoes off but every morning, the freak out would last shorter and shorter. Maybe next year, she won't freak out at all!
We're already looking forward to next year! We've recruited a few more families to go then so our numbers grow more and more! Maybe before the next decade, we'll have the entire church down at the beach for a week ;) Next year, my parents will be coming as well, Lord willing. They've never struck me as beach people but I imagine they can be any kind of people as long as their grand baby is there!
So for now, it's back to the grind and dreaming of 358 days from now when my toes are back in the sand!
God bless!
